I’m very pleased to share that The Emotional Life of Organisations has been shortlisted for the 2026 Business Book Awards.

I wrote this book because I think we often misunderstand what organisations really are.

We talk about strategy, culture, structure, performance and change, as if these things exist separately from the people inside them.

But they don’t…. Every organisation has an emotional life.

🔴 You see it in the meeting where everyone knows the real issue, but nobody names it

🔴 You see it when a leader becomes defensive, and the whole team adjusts around them

🔴 You see it when talented people stop speaking honestly because it feels safer to stay quiet

🔴 You see it when a culture problem survives yet another away day, values exercise or change programme

The book is about what sits beneath the surface of organisational life:

anxiety, trust, rivalry, shame, belonging, ambition and fear.

It’s a real boost to see the book shortlisted, and to know that this way of thinking about work is connecting with people.

Thank you to everyone who has read, supported or recommended the book, and congratulations to the other shortlisted authors.
