Coaching
for
leaders & professionals

Running an organisation or team can be

great - rewarding, challenging and meaningful

However, sometimes you might encounter situations that are so challenging you feel you don’t have the time, emotional energy or even skills to manage successfully as you would like; for example:

  • Managing difficult relationships and conflict at work

  • Navigating change

  • Developing innovation/creativity while keeping the day-to-day stuff going

  • Role transition

  • Building a positive organisational culture to improve performance

  • Better manage the stress inherent in the role

I can help you and your organisation successfully navigate
these tough situations.

I don’t offer an ‘off the peg,’ coaching programme or methodology, but my expertise as a psychologist and coach to help you really think through the situation and figure out the best way forward.  This could include coaching, group coaching/facilitation, negotiation or board level work.

I will partner with you as an independent mind to offer a different perspective on a challenging situation.  I will be supportive but also challenge you. It’s usually difficult for senior people to get the honest feedback they need to move forward.

How many times have you observed seemingly intelligent and professional people behave in the most irrational or toxic manner?

My approach will help you unravel and understand the often unconscious and emotional factors behind such seemingly irrational behaviour. Such a perspective can be priceless when leading an organisation or team.  The systems psychodynamic model informs my coaching and  consulting work.  This approach has its roots in psychoanalysis and systems theory and offers a deeper perspective.  I work with you to help you understand the deeper motivations and resistance to change, and to uncover and tackle the root of organisational issues, rather than simply deal with their manifestations.

My approach works with the emotional dimensions of organisational life, which are often unconscious or unexpressed.

My approach is systems oriented which sees you as part of a wider organisational and social system, rather than just an individual with developmental needs

SAID business school

I am a leadership coach on the Executive MBA,

Oxford High Performance Leadership and Driving Disruptive Growth Programmes at

Said Business School, University of Oxford.

How I work:

We will talk to begin to understand you and your situation and how we can make it better.  A background in psychology helps me understand what has made you the person you are, and the person that you have the potential to become.

I want to know what drives you, what inspires you, what derails you and how you deal with adversity when you face challenges.  We will work together to quickly identify your strengths and how to play to them - it is usually best to work on improving what you' are good at then worry about what you are bad at.

We will identify specific goals you want to achieve, and how we can measure your progress in meeting these goals.

The coaching programme begins with a conversation to discuss your situation, identify your goals  and agree a plan for achieving them.   I may also ask you to complete a personality profile using the reliable and valid NEO-PI-3 psychometric test. This test measures the ‘big five’ personality characteristics.  The profile will help you understand your personality, and how you can build on your strengths to improve your performance.

After that we meet face-to-face at least monthly (we can arrange more meetings as needed). I will partner with you as an independent mind to offer a different perspective on a challenging situation.  I will be supportive, but also challenge you.

It’s usually difficult for senior people to get the honest feedback they need to move forward.

Coaching is a powerful developmental experience for you and will

generate clear benefits for your organisation.

It will help you to become more effective, confident, and fulfilled in your

role and more successful in meeting your objectives.

NEO-PI-3 psychometric test

The NEO is the gold-standard questionnaire measure of the Five Factor Model, providing detailed personality descriptions that can be a valuable resource for a variety of professionals.

The NEO is a concise measure of the the major domains of personality, as well as the six traits or facets defining each domain. Taken together, the domain scales and 30 facet

scales facilitate a comprehensive and detailed

assessment of normal adult personality.

I am a qualified practitioner in the administration and interpretation of this licensed psychometric test.

"Mike has provided excellent executive coaching. His approach is
pragmatic and insightful. He understands the issues that can arise for people
operating at board level. He assisted me in solving a number of issues and has
equipped me with the skills to improve my performance and become more effective.

I would highly recommend him for anyone seeking support to improve
their performance at executive level.”
